• Muscovy ducks are considered an invasive species in Florida:

      • Introduced
Muscovy ducks were intentionally brought to the United States as an ornamental species, but they escaped and established feral populations.

      • Impact on native species
Muscovy ducks can interbreed with native ducks, spread disease, and bully native birds away from food sources.

      • Droppings
Muscovy ducks leave large amounts of droppings that can contaminate water, increase nutrient loading, and potentially spread disease to humans.

    • Aggressive
Muscovy ducks can become aggressive if fed and have been reported to charge at small children and pets.

Muscovy ducks are regulated as Class III wildlife in Florida, meaning a permit is required to possess them for exhibition or sale. However, a permit is not required to possess them as personal pets.

Landowners can remove Muscovy ducks from their property by hiring a nuisance wildlife trapper. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner’s website can help you find a trapper near you.

To keep ducks out of specific areas, you can block off or remove access to areas that provide water and food. You can also use Bird-X Netting, which is effective when installed properly.
